Delving deeper

The Dotted Line is a collection that explores the significance of handlooms from a cultural and sustainability point of view. Through our slates and stones color palette, Jacquard punching cards are illustrated as a manifestation of the entire weaving process. When it comes to the thought process behind this collection it dates back to when I visited India as a young girl. Growing up, visits to India were punctuated by the background music of jacquard punching cards shuffling, and the shuttle sprinting across the warp and weft in the looms I visited with my mother. Inspired by the machinery and operation behind building the cards as a profound vernacular of the weaving process; the collection draws parallels between the Western and Eastern world through the aesthetics and linguistic principles of a ‘circular’ language of morse and jacquard respectively.
