the Dotted Line is a collection that explores the significance of handlooms from a cultural and sustainability point of view. through our slates and stones color palette, jacquard punching cards are illustrated as a manifestation of the entire weaving process. when it comes to the thought process behind this collection it dates back to when i visited India as a young girl. growing up, visits to India were punctuated by the background music of jacquard punching cards shuffling, and the shuttle sprinting across the warp and weft in the looms I visited with my mother. inspired by the machinery and operation behind building the cards as a profound vernacular of the weaving process; the collection draws parallels between the western and eastern world through the aesthetics and linguistic principles of a ‘circular’ language of morse and jacquard respectively.
